Urban Alliance looks to redirect youth from gun violence with ‘Life Camp’ events
June 5, 2023
KALAMAZOO, Mich. — Urban Alliance is scheduled to have its second annual Life Camp offerings on June 13.
The day camps were designed to help area youth change the narrative of gun violence in Kalamazoo and separate recklessness from recreation and lethal from legal gun usage, according to Urban Alliance.
The events are scheduled in June, July, and August, and are open to ages 11-16.
Those who attend will take part in discussions and activities designed to assist youth in avoiding gun violence cycles, and talking about acceptable and unacceptable gun uses, Urban Alliance said.
“Urban Alliance’s goal is to reach youth in our community before they are involved in gun violence and the ramifications of it that could steal their lives and freedom,” Urban Alliance Outreach Manager James Harris said. “Rather than lecture attendees, we will give them the tools and resources to step out of the cycle of gun violence in order to better themselves as well as the community as a whole.”
